At times in the stock market, a stock or a derivatives contract is bought or sold at a price which is at a substantial divergence to the prevailing market price. This could be because of some human error or some glitch in the software, either at the broker's end or the stock exchange's trading engine. There are instances where such flash crashes have been a result of wrong entry of the price or the quantity at which a stock/derivative contract is intended to be bought, popularly called 'fat finger errors'. Sebi recently came out with a new set of guidelines to eliminate such errors which can distort the trading.
