This communication from HM Edmund K. Silva, Jr., relates to this earlier post about the OHA meeting today and tomorrow (7-16-14, 7-17-14) on Kaua'i.
An article in the Star Advertiser is referenced in this letter, which is available at Scribd, or at the Star Advertiser website ("Consensus from Hawaiians would end U.S. effort") (also read it below the "Read more"). Also, here are a few references I found to "the Danners", of whom I was not aware (link 1, link 2, link 3).
Below are a few highlights from the statement, from my view.
"Corruption is the misuse of entrusted power (by heritage, education, marriage, election, appointment or whatever else) for private gain. This broader definition covers not only the politician and the public servant, but also the CEO and CFO of a company, the notary public, the team leader at a workplace, etcetera.
"From around the Archipelago of the Kingdom of Hawai'i and abroad, I am receiving numerous reports from reliable sources about gross misconduct on the part of The Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA), along with The Kana'iolowalu Hawaiian Roll Commission and others... Therefore, I have instructed HM Attorney General the Honorable Judge Naidu to investigate these allegations and to report them to me for further processing.
"It has been reported that OHA, Kana`iolowalu and those associated with them are in a desperate panic to hide their ill-gotten assets by destroying documents linking them to padding the books to paying for personal expenses for themselves and family not associated with the job they were elected to perform. Sources report they know their time in power has almost run its course and that those accused of malversation are feathering their personal nests and doing their best to sell out our nation to the occupying force before they are justifiably forced out of office. Apparently, they feel that they can cause havoc without consequences. And that they are above the Law, bereft of accountability and responsibility...
Their allies in the media are attempting to elevate the few, who have spoken in favor of the dissolution of the Kingdom and the creation of a Hawaiian tribe on a reservation. A copy of one such article accompanies this message.
"OHA is apparently not prepared to similarly terminate its pursuit of Kingdom destruction. On the OHA Agenda for Tuesday, July 15 is "Approval and Appointments to the Ad Hoc Committee on Nation Building Public Education and Information." As each OHA creation loses its legitimacy, OHA manufactures another one.
"...the process now underway is creating more division within the people. Divide and conquer can be an effective and conspiratorial political strategy, not just a slogan, when dealing with an un-awakened and uninformed population. However, as the island community meetings with the DOI should have made clear to you, these islands and their people are now very awake, and very informed. What is truly needed is an honest acknowledgment of the true history and a coming together of well meaning people to address the implications of that history.
"...I have directed my Legal Branch to investigate the affairs of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Kana'iolowalu, and those associated with them, for corruption, racketeering and fraud. Once this investigation has progressed to a point to where irrefutable evidence of corruption has been found, I will direct His Majesty's Royal Police Force, duly badged and sworn to uphold our Constitution, to make lawful arrests of the suspects, and to try them before the Kingdom of Hawai'i Court of Law."
