Our second Hawaiʻi Aloha presentation by Dr. Keanu Sai at the West Hawaiʻi Civic Center 6p - 8p on October 24, 2014.

Hawaiʻi Aloha is an educational series designed to continue the discourse that was started at the Department of Interior hearings held all across Hawaiʻi and specifically here in Kona in the month of July. Many people, Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian alike, showed up to voice their opinion. The overwhelming majority of people who presented testimony that night, and at all DOI meetings across the islands, strongly opposed any type of Federal Recognition from the United States of America and also opposed the State of Hawaiʻi initiated Kanaʻiolowalu. Many based their stance on information that has never been taught to us in any level of public compulsory education in Hawaiʻi. The purpose of Hawaiʻi Aloha is to educate and inform our whole community on critical information denied to us for so long that it has blinded us to our true aloha for Hawaiʻi. The aloha many feel for Hawaiʻi today is not much like the aloha felt by our kūpuna long ago. Perhaps this is due to the fact that we donʻt know the same things that they knew and therefore donʻt feel the same relationship and kuleana to Hawaiʻi. The ultimate goal of Hawaiʻi Aloha is to bring each and every one of us, both Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian, back to Aloha ʻĀina, a true and genuine aloha for our land, our people and our country.

"On January 17 of 1893, Queen Lili'uokalani, sovereign of the the Kingdom of Hawai'i, a neutral country, was illegally overthrown by a group of men with the assistance of the U.S. Minister to Hawai'i and the U.S. Military and under protest, relinquished her authority to the President of the United States of America. A story like this couldn't possibly be explained in a few short sentences, yet, most school textbooks manage to squeeze a misinformed story of our country and the so-called "annexation" to America into just that. For well over 120 years, the truth has been put under the rug with the hopes that no one would ever pull it out. The truth has been revealed, though, and the truth is powerful."
