GOVERNMENT-run lender Central Bank of India on Tuesday launched a special scheme offering to double depositors' money in sevenand-a-half years.

The scheme, christened 'Cent Double', will give an annualised yield of 13.33 per cent and is valid between September 1 and December 31, a statement issued in Mumbai by the bank said.

For senior citizens, the annualised yield is slightly higher at 14.93 per cent and the money will double in seven years and three months, it added.

In metros and urban centres, the minimum deposit to be made under the scheme is Rs 10,000, while for semi-urban and rural centres, it is Rs 5,000, it said, adding that the maximum sum that can be invested is less than Rs 1 crore.

Central Bank of India, which was established in 1911, was nationalised in 1969. The bank has a network of 3,728 branches across India. The Mumbaibased bank also has an international banking division for non-resident Indians (NRIs).

Earlier this month, Central Bank of India announced a bancassurance tie-up with Cholamandalam MS General Insurance to sell general insurance products at all its bank branches across the country.
